Area of focus  4 Programme delivery and assessment
Criterion 4-2 Delivery
Main statement

WBL Programmes are delivered and supported so that students can achieve the specified learning outcomes while further developing their professional career and while satisfying employer expectations and requirements.

Self assessment guidelines
  • Delivery is cost-effective and efficient, minimising loss of time and earnings for companies and employees as well as being time-efficient for providers.
  • ICT facilities and policies allow learners and other stakeholders involved in programme delivery and support to access learning, assessment and support systems, irrespective of where and when they undertake their studies.
  • Effective procedures are in place and explicit levels of support are offered to learners by tutors, mentors and assessors (including support offered by new communications technologies such as Skype).
  • Pre-planned and appropriate learner induction is provided (e.g. recognising that learners may be at a remote distance and undertaking induction outside of the normal academic year).
  • Course handbooks, materials, resources, etc. are provided and made available in formats appropriate for WBL and accessible to all learners.
  • Learners are supported by both an academic/tutor and work-based tutor/mentor/assessor.
  • Personal Development Planning (PDP) is effectively integrated into the programme of study.
  • Recognition for Prior Learning (RPL) is effectively integrated into the programme of study.
Evidence to look for
  • Delivery methods and support mechanisms (both physical and virtual).
  • Assessment strategy.
  • Employer feedback.
  • Feedback from student groups.
  • Data on student performance both during and after the course.
