Area of focus  4 Programme delivery and assessment
Criterion 4-1 Transition and induction
Main statement

WBL Programmes are delivered and supported so that students can achieve the specified learning outcomes while further developing their professional career and while satisfying employer expectations and requirements.

Self assessment guidelines
  • HEIs and colleges ensure common approaches to recruitment where progression routes and life-long learning potential are fully explained to candidates.
  • Institutions/course teams provide appropriate and effective pre-entry engagement and induction processes (e.g. negotiation of Learning Contract and any relevant APEL) which are accessible to all learners. For example, pre-entry activities/‘bridging’ courses are designed to prepare learners for degree level study (subject knowledge and/or skills).
  • Academic/personal/social support mechanisms aid learner transition at every stage of the programme.
Evidence to look for
  • Delivery methods and support mechanisms (both physical and virtual).
  • Assessment strategy.
  • Employer feedback.
  • Feedback from student groups.
  • Data on student performance both during and after the course.
