Main statement
The institution integrates the management and institutional embedding of WBL innovations into its strategies, structures, processes (including risk management), resourcing and staff development programmes.
Self assessment guidelines
  • The institution has structures and processes in place to support innovation in WBL and an institutional decision process to ensure that innovative ideas meet with the institutional business case for WBL (institutional policy).
  • The institution is a source of wisdom on fostering innovation and innovators in WBL.
  • The institution resources, encourages and facilitates an institutional-wide community of practice to support the fostering of innovation and the innovation processes.
  • WBL innovation is integrated into staff development programmes.  
  • Staff are supported in how to identify and manage risks associated with innovations in WBL.
  • The institution works collaboratively with others on WBL-related innovation and participates in external communities of practice/special interest groups.
  • The institution assigns responsbilities and provides resources to support embedding of innovations. 
Evidence to look for
  • Examples of successful WBL innovation are shared within and beyond the institution (newsletters, internal seminar programmes etc.)
  • A policy group exists  (may be integrated with other groups) to manage and resource innovation (possibly dedicated to WBL)
  • The institutional policy includes clear goals for WBL.
  • Staff active in WBL development and support collaborate externally in relevant special interest groups/communities of practice.
  • Staff with expertise in WBL are research active and contribute to relevant conferences/journals.
  • The institution has a track record of delivering successful externally-funded innovative WBL projects.
  • Examples of case-studies or other  dissemination outputs/publicity which enhance the reputation of both partner employers and the institution can be cited.
