Criterion 1-10 Systems to support WBL
Main statement

Appropriate ICT support mechanisms are in place to reflect WBL programmes.

Self assessment guidelines
  • An institutional-wide CRM system is in place to support co-ordinated and managed communications with external stakeholders and relationship management.
  • Finance systems reflect employers as well as students as customers.
  • Business systems support budgeting, costing, development of business cases and analyses of costs/benefits - at local and central levels.
  • Learner registration/induction/student records processes/systems reflect flexible start/end dates and remote learning.
  • Systems and ICT policies provide appropriate access and accessibility/usability for work-based learners.
  • ICT systems support capturing and sharing of knowledge and ideas on WBL with all stakeholders.
  • Full inter-operability of systems.
Evidence to look for
  • There  is a dedicated or integrated software system and processes that support the coordination/sharing of information around employer engagement at a central or faculty level.
  • The finance systems support flexible payment methods e.g. online payment, payment by invoice
  • There is an online registration system for WBL which support courses start dates at any time of the year.
  • Employers and WB Learners are able to access learning environments (i.e. VLE, e-Portfolio, library systems) via a single method of authentication
  • Consideration has been given to the possible need for some students to require access to, for example, e-portfolios and certain learning resources in order to continue to apply their learning at the workplace on completion of their WBL programme
  • The system recognises  that employers and learners may need to access university content prior to enrolment in order to understand  a  model of provision likely to be unfamiliar to help  specify their requirement and to understand options such as APEL.
